This print is called THE BEACONS and features the 2 old wooden beacons off the northern end of the Hawkes Bay airport.I've always thought they were old runway lights but they're not. They were the world's first ever shipping beacons made with reinforced concrete bases, and when lined up guide ships through a narrow channel in Pania reef and into the port of Napier.
Before the 1931 earthquake the far beacon used to sit on an island in the inner harbour. Now days that island is a grassy knoll surrounded by more sheep than snapper.
This print is 610x610mm square and is a signed limited edition of 12 giclee prints.
